My financial planner told me to talk to my tax preparer re: rolling my IRA into an Roth IRA in increments to avoid taxes When I asked Lauren she asked me the amount and told me to roll the entire amount. She said that amount can be rolled all at once and I don’t need to do it in increments. Far from correct. When she presented my taxes to me I bought up that she told me to do this, her reply was “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have told you that, that was bad advice”. Her advice impacted me in many ways: 1. moved me to a higher tax bracket 2. Raised my SS taxes 3. increased my MAGI=monthly adjusted gross income 4. significantly increased my Medicare part B premium When I received their tax preparation packet the following year I called her and asked her if she would like to compensate me for her mistake. Her response was that she didn’t remember any of our conversations and didn’t have any notes to go back on. After much conversation she reluctantly told me she would have one of the principles Jonny Lamb call me. After a lengthy conversation with him he told me that he no interest in correcting the mistake. As he contended “it was a misunderstanding”. Far from the truth. He did tell me that Lauren would help me fill out paperwork to medicare at the social security administration for life changing event. That was promptly rejected because I did not have a life changing event. Total wast of my time. After months of corresponding with Jonny (It always took follow up emails to him to get him to respond) he finally agreed to compensate me for my Medicare increase and was clear that he would end all correspondence with me re: the other taxes that negatively effected me if I didn’t accept the offer. I only feel obligated to let other people know of Lauren and Jonny’s disingenuous, unethical and immoral business practices so they can avoid similar situations.
